Free Music Archive

The Free Music Archive provides downloadable music. Where copyright might thwart you from using the soundtrack of Saving Private Ryan as the background music for your YouTube video, there are no such restrictions for the music on FMA. Most of the music falls under a Creative Commons license, as artists expressly put these tracks on this archive for creators to use as they please.  However, please check the License Guide for specific directions pertaining to usage. There is a search bar, but the music is divided into 15 main categories: Blues, Classical, Country, Electronic, Experimental, Folk, Hip-Hop, Instrumental, International, Jazz, Old-Time/Historic, Pop, Rock, Soul-RnB, and Spoken.

Prelinger Archives

The Prelinger Archives, founded by Rick Prelinger in 1983, is dedicated to preserving films. The collection includes “over 60,000 ‘ephemeral‘ (advertising, educational, industrial, and amateur) films,” as mentioned on the “About” page. This page also includes details concerning the rights of these films, which fall under a Creative Commons license. More information on usage is available at the “Prelinger Archives FAQ” page.
